Talking Snow, In August????

Yes, it is time to talk about winter snow removal.

The Town has put out a request to parties that would be interested in providing snow plowing and removal services for the Town’s roadways and facilities. The Town Board will consider the information provided by interested parties at the October Town Board meeting.

Interested parties can download the request documents at the following links.

Be advised the Town considers snow removal as a professional service and the Town reserves the right to contract with that service provider which they feel will provide the Town with adequate service. This is NOT an open competitive bidding process.

TOWN BOARD SUPERVISOR VACANCY

With the retirement of Supervisor Huetter there will be a vacancy starting in October for the last 6 months of the 2 year term of this Supervisor position.

Considering this time period is ¼ of the actual term and with the fact that the area is in a state of emergency it is sensible to make sure that the Town Board is at its full capacity. State law allows the Town Board to appoint a person to fill the vacancy.

The Board is requesting anyone interested in being considered for this vacancy to submit a letter by end of the day August 31, 2020, outlining the strengths and qualities that they would bring to the position. Interviews may be conducted of potential candidates.

You may mail or drop off the letter to the Town Offices at:

(Town Offices are open Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons)

SUPERVISOR HUETTER RETIREMENT

Supervisor Tom Huetter

After serving the Town of Pittsfield on various Boards and committees for 40 years, Town Board Supervisor Tom Huetter announced at the August Board meeting that he will be retiring from his public service after at the end of September. Tom and his wife Betty have sold their home here in the Town and are moving to Alabama to be near their children and grandchildren.

Tom’s, dedication, knowledge of Town history and straight forward common sense will be great missed. It will be sad not seeing Tom, an avid walker (putting in 7 miles a day) on the trails and back-roads of our community. He not only walked the roads but often used that time to speak with residents and listen to their desires and concerns. This is truly a great loss for our Town.

A small ceremony of appreciation is planned during the September 8th Town Board Meeting.

REASSESSMENT OF PROPERTY

Town property owners should have received a copy of a letter advising that the Town is going through a reassessment.

This will NOT result in an automatic increase in your taxes.

Please review the document you were sent and you will see that while the value listed on your property may change so that the value is closer aligned to actual market value, the taxing rate is actually lowered to compensate. The tax rate is changing from .01649 to .01400.

Please use the formulas listed on the letter to calculate your changes.

If you would like to question the process the first step is to reach out to the assessor. Call Paul Denor at: 920-468-9698.

A sample form is attached.
